Ten-year-old dead and second child critical after BMW struck two boys on bike

A 10-year-old boy was killed and another is fighting for his life after both were hit by a car while riding a bike together yesterday evening.

The youngsters were struck by a blue BMW in Hull shortly after 6pm.

In a statement Humberside Police said: “Emergency services attended and the boys were taken to hospital for treatment to life threatening injuries.

“One of the boys sadly died a short time later. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”

The other boy is in a critical condition in hospital.

One man who witnessed the immediate aftermath of the crash reported seeing two boys lying in the road after the accident.

He said: “It was horrible, awful. The emergency services were there and they were trying to help the boys.”

A badly damaged hatchback could be seen at the scene in the middle of the road which had been cordoned off by police. One badly damaged bicycle could also be seen at the side of the road.

The statement continues: “A man, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the collision, he remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue.

“Officers from our serious collisions unit are appealing for anyone that witnessed the collision, who has not already spoken to us, to please get in touch. They are also keen to hear from anyone that saw either vehicle prior to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage from driving in the area at the time.
